Resonant Microcavity Display Utilizing Mirrors Exhibiting Anomalous Phase Dispersion

View page
US Patent:
6649432, Nov 18, 2003
Filed:
Oct 24, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/695630
Inventors:
Hergen Eilers - Palo Alto CA
Steven M. Jaffe - Palo Alto CA
Brian L. Olmsted - Menlo Park CA
Michieal L. Jones - Davis CA
Assignee:
Quantum Vision, Inc. - Menlo Park CA
International Classification:
H01L 2100
US Classification:
438 22, 438 46, 438 47
Abstract:
A resonant microcavity display comprises a thin-film resonant microcavity ( ) with an active layer ( ). The microcavity ( ) comprises a front reflector ( ), the active region ( ) deposited upon the front reflector, and a back reflector ( ) deposited upon the active region ( ). The display preferentially emits light that propagates along the axis ( ) perpendicular to the plane of the display, due to its quantum mechanical properties. The extrinsic efficiency of this device is increased by the use of thin film construction with anomalous phase dispersion.

US Patent:
7009211, Mar 7, 2006
Filed:
Mar 18, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/391376
Inventors:
Hergen Eilers - Palo Alto CA, US
Steven M. Jaffe - Palo Alto CA, US
Brian L. Olmsted - Menlo Park CA, US
Michieal L. Jones - Davis CA, US
Assignee:
Quantum Vision, Inc. - Mountain View CA
International Classification:
H01L 29/22
US Classification:
257 98, 372 45
Abstract:
A resonant microcavity display comprises a thin-film resonant microcavity () with an active layer (). The microcavity () comprises a front reflector (), the active region () deposited upon the front reflector, and a back reflector () deposited upon the active region (). The display preferentially emits light that propagates along the axis () perpendicular to the plane of the display, due to its quantum mechanical properties. The extrinsic efficiency of this device is increased by the use of thin film construction with anomalous phase dispersion.

US Patent:
59558393, Sep 21, 1999
Filed:
Mar 26, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/827189
Inventors:
Steven M. Jaffe - Palo Alto CA
Michieal L. Jones - Davis CA
Jeffrey S. Thayer - Montana CA
Brian L. Olmsted - Menlo Park CA
Hergen Eilers - Palo Alto CA
Assignee:
Quantum Vision, Inc. - Mountain View CA
International Classification:
H01K 102
H01K 128
H01K 150
US Classification:
313578
Abstract:
An incandescent microcavity lightsource 30 has an incandescent active region 13 capable of spontaneous light emission when heated. The incandescent microcavity lightsource 30 controls the spontaneous light emissions from said active region 13.
