In one embodiment, a safety magazine disposed within a firearm disables or enables a firing control mechanism in the firearm upon sensing or not sensing the presence of, or communicating or not communicating with, an external communication and/or enabling device. In another embodiment, the safety magazine locks itself into or unlocks itself from the frame of the firearm upon sensing or not sensing the presence of, or communicating or not communicating with, an external communication and/or enabling devices. The safety magazine may be configured to be received in unmodified, existing, stock firearms.

The receiver unit serves to down convert the 900 MHz signal to a local frequency band which is received by an FM receiver of the receiver unit which serves to reproduce the audio signals therefrom which are, in turn, converted to acoustic signals by electroacoustic transducers of the headphone. A transmitter unit includes a ceramic resonator stabilized FM transmitter, as well a filter for suppressing high frequency noise in an audio modulation signal, a stereo audio multiplexing unit utilizing a 3f. sub. H subcarrier and an overmodulation detection unit. In certain embodiments, the receiver unit is powered by a rechargeable battery which is recharged from the transmitter unit.

A backup battery system has an add-on battery module intended for semi-permanent to permanent pairing with an existing lead-acid vehicle battery. The system provides a backup to the battery if the battery becomes depleted or unserviceable due to age, damage, or sub-freezing temperatures. The system is installed alongside the existing vehicle battery and has no impact on operations unless it automatically detects that the battery has become depleted and is in need of an assist, in which case the system will “wake up” and jump start the vehicle. The system is charged by the vehicle electrical system in parallel with the vehicle battery as needed, but only when the vehicle is running.

A battery jump starting connection detection system and method assists in making the best connection to the vehicle battery by detecting the connection resistance to the battery. The connection resistance measurement is taken with the jump start battery isolated from the battery and involves placing a load of known resistance on the battery via the clamps and cabling, and measuring the voltage differential in loaded and unloaded states. The connection resistance is calculated in a main controller, given the loaded and unloaded voltages. As the user adjusts the jump start clamps on the battery terminals in order to get the best possible contact, the system measures the resistance and the results are presented on a display in a meaningful, easy-to-read format such as an LCD display. The user can thus optimize the connection while seeing the results of the optimization in real time.
