Quality Packet Radio Service For A General Packet Radio System

View page
US Patent:
7583631, Sep 1, 2009
Filed:
Jun 10, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/150627
Inventors:
Harry Tan - Rolling Hills Estates CA, US
Assignee:
Digicomm, Limited - Honolulu HI
International Classification:
H04W 72/04
US Classification:
370329, 370341, 370433, 455450
Abstract:
The Quality Packet Radio Service enhances the slow General Packet Radio Service medium access procedure to include fast in-session access capability. In order to maximize spectral efficiency, all services in Quality Packet Radio Service are assigned uplink radio channel resources only when they have active data to send. A new set of common control channels is designed to provide these in-session network access capabilities. These channels support similar access and control functions as the General Packet Radio Service common control channels (such as Packet Random Access Channel, Packet Access Grant Channel) except they are used solely in Quality Packet Radio Service to implement in-session access. These common control channels are structured to meet the stringent low delay requirements for in-session access and are termed fast packet common control channels. Since initial radio channel access to the mobile subscriber station has already been established, a smaller amount of overhead information is required for implementing in-session access, thereby allowing these stringent low delay requirements to be met.

Universal Packet Loss Recovery System For Delivery Of Real-Time Streaming Multimedia Content Over Packet-Switched Networks

View page
US Patent:
8145975, Mar 27, 2012
Filed:
Feb 28, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/039489
Inventors:
Shu Lin - Cerritos CA, US
Harry Tan - Palos Verdes Estates CA, US
Robert M. Liang - Irvine CA, US
Assignee:
IP Video Communications Corporation - Cerritos CA
International Classification:
G06F 11/00
US Classification:
714758
Abstract:
The Universal Packet Loss Recovery System is capable of recovering end-to-end network packet losses to obtain reliable end-to-end network delivery of multimedia streaming content over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, where packet losses appear above the transport layer. This system incorporates the use of Packet Forward Error Correction Coding (FEC) with packet interleaving processing prior to transport. Packet FEC Coding is an error correction coding method at the packet level which improves link transmission reliability. At the source end of the packet-switching network, the Packet FEC Coding scheme encodes a stream of transport multimedia content packets by including redundant packets to allow for recovery of lost packets by the Packet FEC Coding decoder at the user end of the packet-switching network. Since lost packets appear only above the transport layer in the IP network protocol stack, Packet FEC Coding can be viewed as a transport layer or application layer coding method.

US Patent:
20040184426, Sep 23, 2004
Filed:
Mar 17, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/390144
Inventors:
Harry Tan - Rolling Hills Estates CA, US
International Classification:
H04Q007/24
US Classification:
370/338000, 370/349000
Specifically, for those services allowed to use in-session access, the assigned uplink channel resources are released during an in-session inactive data period by releasing its assigned Uplink State Flag(s) and Packet Data Traffic Channel(s).

International Classification:

US Classification:

Abstract:
The Universal Packet Loss Recovery System (UPLRS) is capable of recovering end-to-end network packet losses to obtain reliable end-to-end network delivery of multimedia streaming content over IP networks where packet losses appear above the transport layer. The UPLRS incorporates the use of Packet Forward Error Correction Coding (FEC) with packet interleaving processing prior to transport. Packet FEC is an error correction coding method at the packet level to improve link transmission reliability. At the source end of the packet-switching network, the Packet FEC scheme encodes a stream of transport multimedia content packets by including redundant packets in the stream to allow for the recovery of lost packets by the Packet FEC decoder at the user end of the packet-switching network.
