Southeast Missouri State University Graduate Student Researcher: Biology Department May 2014-Dec 2014 Project Title: Evaluating the role of genes in the piRNA pathway on whole organism of Drosophila melanogaster. Used P[E:Act5C-Gal4]/Cyo fly line to cross the fruit flies with a knock-down or an overexpression gene of interest related to piRNA pathway and observed if there was any effect on whole organism throughout the development Set-up laboratory equipment and instrumentation required to perform research o Maintaining Drosophila stocks o Making Drosophila food Developed skills in direct and indirect fluorescence microscopy, and confocal microscopy Familiar with setting up the Drosophila crosses, selecting Drosophila virgin female, recognize Drosophila by its phenotype, dissecting Drosophila Larvae, measuring Drosophila eyes, taking images of Drosophila with Infinity Analyze software Presented the project result in Graduate Seminar course Southeast Missouri State University Nano-Science and Biomedical Engineering Workshop Participant June 2014 Team Project: Examine the interaction between smart nanostructures and mammalian cells.
