Abstract:
A semiconductor package for power transistors of the LDMOS type has a metallic substrate with a die mounted directly thereon, lead frame insulators mounted thereon adjacent the die and a plurality of leads mounted on the insulators and electrically coupled to the die by bond wires. The substrate includes a body having opposite surfaces comprising pure copper layers, and with the body interior being at least partially comprised of a copper/diamond composite so as to act as a heat spreader and provide improved heat removal and low thermal expansion, as well as an electrical connection for the die. The body may be entirely comprised of a copper/diamond composite, or it may be comprised of a copper/tungsten composite having a copper/diamond composite insert therein. The copper/diamond composite is comprised of diamond particles within a copper matrix. In a method of making the copper/diamond composite, diamond particles are coated with multiple layers of elements or inorganic compounds, mixed with a dry-processing binder and compacted in a die under pressure to form a compacted body.

Abstract:
A high-temperature thermoelectric module. The module includes a two part molded egg-crate for holding in place and providing insulation and electrical connections for a number of thermoelectric n-legs and p-legs. A first part of the egg-crate is comprised of a ceramic material capable of operation at temperatures in excess of 600 C. and a second part comprised of a thermoplastic material having very low thermal conductivity. In preferred embodiments the high temperature ceramic is zirconia and the thermoplastic material is DuPont Zenite. The thermoelectric legs are also comprised of high-temperature and low-temperature material. In preferred embodiments the high temperature thermoelectric material is lead telluride and the low temperature material is bismuth telluride. In preferred embodiments metal felt spacers are provided in each leg to maintain proper electrical contacts notwithstanding substantial temperature variations. Preferably the module is sealed in an inert gas filled insulating capsule.

Abstract:
A fire activated device which closes off a wall opening through which a plastic pipe or other fusible member extends. The device includes a back plate which is mounted to the wall with an opening in the plate in alignment with the wall opening which receives the pipe. A spring loaded cutting blade is normally held away from the pipe by a fuse plug which melts in the event of a fire. The blade is then released and cuts through the pipe under the influence of the springs. A stop plate holds the blade in position to cover the opening to prevent fire from passing through it to the adjoining room. The springs are shielded from the heat by telescoping tubes which contain them.

A small and durable antenna for use with radio and microwave communications is formed as a helical conductor contained in a multilayered non-ferrite ceramic chip.
