Abstract:
A system determines the level of paper available in paper supply for printing. The system comprises a signal emitter and a variably activated receiver. The receiver alters an electrical parameter such as a resistance in accordance with the portion of the emitted signal received at the receiver. This alterable electrical parameter is in an electrical circuit that generates a signal proportional to the received portion of the emitted signal. An array of variably activated receivers may be arranged opposite a signal emitter to receive the signal portion not blocked by a paper supply. Alternatively, the array of variably activated receivers may be located adjacent to the signal emitter to receive the portion of the emitted signal reflected from the paper supply. The receiver uses the received or reflected signal to generate a signal having a magnitude proportional to the received or reflected signal. The signal from each of the receivers may be summed to generate a signal with a magnitude range that corresponds to the full and empty conditions of the paper supply at its extremes.

Abstract:
Disclosed are systems and methods for detecting a printer jam. The systems and methods can include receiving a reference image of a printer opening and a second image of the printer opening. A lack of a receipt between the second image compared to the reference image can be detected. The lack of the receipt can indicate the printer jam. After detecting the printer jam, operation of the self-service terminal can be terminated.

Abstract:
Various embodiments herein each include at least one of systems, software, and methods for detecting such problems and to take corrective action. One embodiment, in the form of a method, includes instructing a printer to print a document including a testing output and receiving an image of the document including the testing output from an imaging device. This method further includes analyzing the testing output included in the received image in view of an expected testing output to identify a printing issue and then storing a result of the analysis. The method may also include performing at least one remedial action to correct an identified printing issue.
