Uhf Ground Interconnects

View page
US Patent:
6617526, Sep 9, 2003
Filed:
Apr 23, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/839151
Inventors:
Peter A. Miller - Orlando FL
Assignee:
Lockheed Martin Corporation - Bethesda MD
International Classification:
H01R 1204
US Classification:
174261, 174255, 174262, 174266, 361792, 361794, 361795
Abstract:
A via on a printed circuit board having a circuit has a first interconnect and a second interconnect located about at least a portion of the first interconnect. The second interconnect connects to ground of the circuit and is coaxial and substantially concentric with the first interconnect and inductively coupled with the first interconnect. A method of electrically interconnecting at a via multiple layers on a printed circuit board to provide a common ground plane for a circuit is also provided. A high speed interconnection can be attained by allowing the ground return path for a circuit carried on multiple layers of a multilayer printed circuit board to remain coupled to the signal, thereby lowering ground inductance and maintaining signal integrity, even at UHF, while minimizing costs.

Energy System For Heavy Equipment

View page
US Patent:
8606451, Dec 10, 2013
Filed:
Sep 27, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/246425
Inventors:
Omar Abdel-Baqi - Oak Creek WI, US
Adel Nasiri - Milwaukee WI, US
Peter Miller - Brookfield WI, US
Joe Helfrich - Milwaukee WI, US
Assignee:
Caterpillar Global Mining LLC - South Milwaukee WI
International Classification:
B60W 10/24
E02F 9/20
US Classification:
701 22, 701 50
Abstract:
An energy system for heavy equipment having an actuator for operating a tool includes a bus, an engine, a generator, an energy storage device, and a controller. The bus is for providing electricity to the actuator as a function of operation of the tool. The engine is for providing a power output and the generator is coupled to the engine and configured to provide electricity to the bus. The energy storage device is configured to receive electricity from the bus for storage of energy, and is further configured to provide electricity to the bus to supplement the electricity provided by the generator. The controller is configured to change the power output of the engine as a function of electrical demand on the bus. In response to a change in the electrical demand, the controller is configured to change the power output of the engine at a rate that is less than a maximum capability of the engine.

Energy Management And Storage System

US Patent:
8626403, Jan 7, 2014
Filed:
Oct 6, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/899375
Inventors:
Michael Gordon Onsager - Franklin WI, US
Joseph Helfrich - Milwaukee WI, US
Dave L. Perugini - Kenosha WI, US
Wayne George Chmiel - Norway WI, US
Robert Weber - Wadsworth IL, US
Peter James Miller - Brookfield WI, US
Assignee:
Caterpillar Global Mining LLC - South Milwaukee WI
International Classification:
B60W 10/24
US Classification:
701 50, 701 22, 180 65265, 180 6527, 180 65275, 180 65285, 180 6531, 318140, 903902, 903903, 903906
Abstract:
Heavy equipment is designed for operation in a substantially-repetitive work cycle that includes lifting, rotating, and lowering steps. The heavy equipment includes a generator, an electrical bus, an energy storage component, and working components. The generator provides a substantially constant electrical output to the electrical bus, which is communicated to the working components. As such, the working components of the heavy equipment are driven directly or indirectly by the electrical output of the generator. The controller selectively couples the energy storage component to the electrical bus, and the energy storage component is configured to store electricity provided by the generator, and to provide electricity to the working components by way of the electrical bus. The electrical output of the generator is less than the power used by the heavy equipment during a portion of the work cycle, and the controller couples the energy storage component to the electrical bus to supplement the electrical output of the generator during the portion of the work cycle in which the electrical output of the generator is less than the power used by the working components of the heavy equipment.

Hydraulic System For Heavy Equipment

View page
US Patent:
20110056194, Mar 10, 2011
Filed:
Nov 3, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/938897
Inventors:
Mark Wojcicki - Waukesha WI, US
Michael G. Onsager - Franklin WI, US
Joseph Helfrich - Milwaukee WI, US
Wayne G. Chmiel - Norway WI, US
Peter Miller - Brookfield WI, US
International Classification:
F15B 11/17
F15B 21/02
US Classification:
60428, 60486
Abstract:
Heavy equipment includes first and second hydraulic pumps, and first and second hydraulic actuators, where the first hydraulic actuator facilitates a first work function of the heavy equipment and the second hydraulic actuator facilitates a second work function of the heavy equipment. The heavy equipment further includes valving and a computerized controller. The valving is configured to allow the first hydraulic pump to be coupled to the first hydraulic actuator and the second hydraulic actuator, and to allow the second hydraulic pump to be coupled to the first hydraulic actuator and the second hydraulic actuator. The computerized controller is coupled to the valving, and has a logic module. The logic module provides instructions to the computerized controller to operate the valving as a function of inputs from an operator command, a sensor input, and prioritization logic associated with the first and second work functions, so as to optimize performance of the work functions facilitated by the hydraulic actuators with respect to available output of the hydraulic pumps.

US Patent:
20120089280, Apr 12, 2012
Filed:
Oct 6, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/899450
Inventors:
Michael Gordon Onsager - Franklin WI, US
Joseph Helfrich - Milwaukee WI, US
Dave L. Perugini - Kenosha WI, US
Wayne George Chmiel - Norway WI, US
Peter James Miller - Brookfield WI, US
International Classification:
B60L 15/00
US Classification:
701 22, 307 91
Abstract:
Heavy equipment includes a body, an electrical bus, and working components coupled to the body and powered by electricity conveyed via the electrical bus. The heavy equipment further includes a generator set providing an electrical output to the electrical bus, an energy storage element configured to be coupled to the electrical bus, and a computerized controller coupled to the energy storage element. The computerized controller includes a logic module for coupling the energy storage element to the electrical bus in advance of a predicted increase in demand upon the electrical bus, where the increase in demand is anticipated by the computerized controller as forthcoming based upon extrapolation, at least in part, from data related to a previous operation of the heavy equipment.

Power On/Off Reset Generator

View page
US Patent:
46111263, Sep 9, 1986
Filed:
Oct 4, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/657557
Inventors:
Peter A. Miller - Orlando FL
Assignee:
Werkzeugmaschinenfabrik Oerlikon-Buehrle AG - Zurich
International Classification:
H02J 700
US Classification:
307 64
Abstract:
A power on-off reset generator for monitoring a power supply for a logic system powered from the monitored power supply. A precision-voltage sensor produces a control signal for a time delay circuit when the power supply rises above a preselected value. A delay signal is generated which maintains an active-LOW control signal to the logic system and causes a Schmitt trigger circuit to produce a HIGH control signal to the logic system at the end of the delay signal.
