Chung-Sheng Li - Ossining NY
Rakesh Mohan - Stamford CT
John R. Smith - New Hyde Park NY
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 1730
US Classification:
707104, 707 3, 707 5, 707 10, 707501, 707514, 709224, 709231, 709217
Abstract:
A method of adapting multimedia content to a client device, wherein the multimedia content includes one or more items and the client device has capabilities and resources associated therewith, is provided. The method includes transcoding the multimedia content into a plurality of transcoded content versions, wherein the plurality of transcoded content versions have different modalities and resolutions associated therewith. Next, the transcoded content versions that are not compatible with client device capabilities are filtered out. Then, at least a portion of the resources associated with the client device are allocated among the one or more items of the multimedia content. Lastly, one or more of the transcoded versions of the multimedia content are selected to generate a customized content based on allocation of the client device resources.

Size Recognition System With Method For Determining Price Of A Commodity

View page
US Patent:
6434257, Aug 13, 2002
Filed:
Jul 9, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/900139
Inventors:
Rakesh Mohan - Stamford CT
Jonathan Hudson Connell - Cortlandt-Manor NY
Rudolf Maarten Bolle - Bedford Hills NY
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06K 900
US Classification:
382110, 382141, 382170, 382199, 382203, 348 89
Abstract:
The present system and apparatus use image processing to recognize object size with a scene. The system includes novel image processing apparatus and method to segment one or more object images from a background image of the scene. A processed image (that can be used to characterize size features) of the object(s) is then compared to stored reference images. The object size is recognized when a match occurs. The system can recognize object sizes independent of number of objects present and the objects may be touching each other and overlapping. The system can be trained to recognize object sizes that it was not originally programmed to recognize.

Multimedia Content Description Framework

709231, 707 3, 707101, 7075001, 7071041, 709232
Abstract:
A framework is provided for describing multimedia content and a system in which a plurality of multimedia storage devices employing the content description methods of the present invention can interoperate. In accordance with one form of the present invention, the content description framework is a description scheme (DS) for describing streams or aggregations of multimedia objects, which may comprise audio, images, video, text, time series, and various other modalities. This description scheme can accommodate an essentially limitless number of descriptors in terms of features, semantics or metadata, and facilitate content-based search, index, and retrieval, among other capabilities, for both streamed or aggregated multimedia objects.

Method For Describing Media Assets For Their Management

View page
US Patent:
6748382, Jun 8, 2004
Filed:
Dec 1, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/451886
Inventors:
Rakesh Mohan - Stamford CT
Chung-Sheng Li - Ossining NY
Howard L. Operowsky - Poughkeepsie NY
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 1730
US Classification:
707 10, 707103, 7071041, 709216, 709224
Abstract:
A system and method for describing and managing media assets comprising a two-pronged solution: (1) a Digital Library to provide a centralized repository of the media assets and (2) a standard description scheme that will allow interoperation of a variety of tools and processes required for managing media assets. In the invention, a description scheme is provided that addresses information needed for managing media assets independent of their type. In addition, the invention provides a description scheme for logical collections of media assets. The media asset management description scheme may be based on eXtensible Markup Language (XML), to ensure maximum interoperability.

Data Representation Schema Translation Through Shared Examples

View page
US Patent:
6772180, Aug 3, 2004
Filed:
Jan 22, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/235793
Inventors:
Chung-Sheng Li - Ossining NY
Rakesh Mohan - Stamford CT
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06F 1721
US Classification:
707513, 707100
Abstract:
A method for translating data from one representation or schema to another representation or schema. Example data encoded in both the schemas is used to generate a translator. This translator is then used for automatically translating data from one schema to another. The translator is computed by finding corresponding paths for matched data elements. When new data is presented in one schema, the translator then gives the translation for the paths of data elements in the data. A translated data is then constructed by using these translated paths. Possible applications in the Internet domain, include but are not limited to: EDI; search engines; content ingestion; content customization; data delivery; and data retrieval. Specific examples are shown for generating a translator and translating data between various schema including HTML, XML and extensions thereto such as SpeechML.

Method And Apparatus For Transcoding Multimedia Using Content Analysis

View page
US Patent:
6970602, Nov 29, 2005
Filed:
Oct 6, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/413515
Inventors:
John R. Smith - New Hyde Park NY, US
Rakesh Mohan - Stamford CT, US
Chung-sheng Li - Ossining NY, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06K009/36
US Classification:
382232, 382100
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for selecting at least one transcoding method for manipulating multimedia data for delivery on the basis of analysis of the content of the multimedia data. Many possible transcoding operations can be performed on multimedia data to adapt it to constraints in delivery and display, processing and storage of client devices. The selection of specific transcoding operations can be made by first analyzing the features, purposes and relevances of the individual multimedia objects within the multimedia documents, then by selecting the transcoding alternatives according to the results of the analysis. Based on the analysis, different transcoding algorithms can be applied to different content, less than all of the content can be transcoded, groups of multimedia objects can be transcoded, etc.

Abstract:
A system and method allow a user to extract the set of customizations performed on an application and use these to estimate the time and effort and cost of (a) migrating to a new version of the application and/or (b) consolidating systems. The user can browse the extracted data and select configuration elements for re-use. After downloading the one or more configurations and comparing them, the user selects elements of the configurations for re-use. The first step is to scan one or more application systems and extract the configuration data using a surveyor. The method according to the invention automatically identifies configuration differences. The user then selects configuration elements for re-use. A graphic user interface (GUI) can be provided which allows the user to make these selections by dragging and dropping selected elements to a “To Be” configuration. The selected configurations are then uploaded and installed on an instance of the application.
