Battery Disconnect Switch For Electric Vehicle

View page
US Patent:
58641068, Jan 26, 1999
Filed:
Jan 7, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/779582
Inventors:
Kenneth Hartwig - Ortonville MI
Larry L. Neblett - Pinckney MI
Dean B. Clark - Clawson MI
Min Sway-Tin - Troy MI
Thomas E. Zielinski - China MI
Assignee:
Chrysler Corporation - Auburn Hills MI
International Classification:
H01H 300
H01H 1320
US Classification:
200 17R
Abstract:
A battery disconnect switch is provided for breaking the conductive path in an electric vehicle comprising at least one conductor pin moveable between a conducting position and a non-conducting position. At least one spring is provided for biasing the conductor pin toward the non-conducting position. A surging mechanism moves the conductor pin to the conducting position and a locking mechanism holds the conductor pin in the conducting position against the bias of the spring. A release mechanism releases the locking mechanism allowing the bias of the spring to force the conductor pin to its non-conducting position.

Secondary Lock Mechanism For An Environmentally Sealed Cable Assembly

View page
US Patent:
49501828, Aug 21, 1990
Filed:
Jul 24, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/383845
Inventors:
Thomas E. Zielinski - Saint Clair MI
Paul W. Geyer - Rochester MI
Assignee:
Chrysler Corporation - Highland Park MI
International Classification:
H01R 13436
US Classification:
439595
Abstract:
A terminal secondary lock bar effects locking of keepers in circular grooves of terminals disposed in rows above and below a lock bar receiving cavity arranged in an interior location within the housing of a plug and a socket of an in-line environmentally sealed cable assembly. The lock bar has two outer laterally directed semi-triangularly shaped fingers and at least one rectangular shaped finger disposed therebetween. The outer fingers are flexed inwardly upon insertion until a region of the cavity provides a lock reaction to the ends of the fingers which flex outwardly into the lock region of the cavity. The outer fingers are also flexed inwardly upon removal of the lock bar from the cavity.

Cam Lever Operated Connector

US Patent:
58238085, Oct 20, 1998
Filed:
Aug 20, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/699837
Inventors:
Dean B. Clark - Clawson MI
Kenneth Hartwig - Ortonville MI
Larry L. Neblett - Pinckney MI
Thomas E. Zielinski - China MI
David B. Hansen - Grand Rapids MI
Assignee:
Chrysler Corporation - Auburn Hills MI
International Classification:
H01R 1362
US Classification:
439157
Abstract:
An electrical connector comprising a male member, a female member, a cam lever for engaging the male and female members, and a lock portion including a sliding member slidable on a track and engaging the cam lever for holding said cam lever in a closed position.

Cable Assembly, Lock Therefor

View page
US Patent:
51042533, Apr 14, 1992
Filed:
Jun 27, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/723667
Inventors:
Thomas E. Zielinski - Saint Clair MI
Paul W. Geyer - Rochester MI
Assignee:
Chrysler Corporation - Highland Park MI
International Classification:
F16B 2106
H01R 1352
US Classification:
403329
Abstract:
Locking a cable socket to a cable plug in a cable assembly is affected by integrally molding a lock assembly to the socket and plug housings. A pair of overstress brackets of the socket housing prevent a resilient latch of the lock assembly from breaking if excessive force is used to move the latch from a catch post mounted on the plug housing. Also, the overstressed brackets are formed in a manner that permits a single molding operation when forming the socket housing.

Method Of Fabricating An Electrical Terminal

View page
US Patent:
55511503, Sep 3, 1996
Filed:
Jun 6, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/466530
Inventors:
Thomas E. Zielinski - China MI
Gregg A. Eisenmann - Canton MI
Robert D. Kennedy - Northville MI
Nickolas O'Branovic - Royal Oak MI
Sucha S. Sian - Southfield MI
Assignee:
Chrysler Corporation - Auburn Hills MI
International Classification:
H01R 4304
US Classification:
29882
Abstract:
A female electrical connector element for connecting a wire lead to a male contact pin has a first end which is crimped to the wire lead and a second end in the form of a socket. The socket includes a cantilevered contact floor and a separate spring contact in opposed relation to the cantilevered contact floor. The male contact pin is inserted between the spring biased contact surface and the cantilevered contact floor to establish an electrical connection. In accordance with the method of fabricating the connector, the cantilevered contact floor is supported sequentially by a series of forming surfaces at a bight portion thereof while the contact floor is being bent through 180. degree. The side flanges of the female component are then folded over the contact for making an enclosure for defining the socket that retains the unitary spring contact.
