A method for determining a classification for a video segment, comprising the steps of: breaking the video segment into a plurality of short-term video slices, each including a plurality of video frames and an audio signal; analyzing the video frames for each short-term video slice to form a plurality of region tracks; analyzing each region track to form a visual feature vector and a motion feature vector; analyzing the audio signal for each short-term video slice to determine an audio feature vector; forming a plurality of short-term audio-visual atoms for each short-term video slice by combining the visual feature vector and the motion feature vector for a particular region track with the corresponding audio feature vector; and using a classifier to determine a classification for the video segment responsive to the short-term audio-visual atoms.

A method for facilitating semantic event classification of a group of image records related to an event. Abstract:
An apparatus, resonator and method for modulating light including a mechanism to compensate for parameter deviations. The apparatus may be capable of phase shift keying and quadrature amplitude modulation, and includes a waveguide, a plurality of micro-resonators, and an electronic structure. The plurality of micro-resonators are positioned adjacent to the waveguide and have a parameter deviation in at least one resonator characteristic. The electronic structure is electrically biased so as to cause electro-optic modulation of amplitude and a phase of the light output by the apparatus, each bias voltage comprising a numerical offset that is determined based upon the parameter deviation, thereby reducing any overall effect caused by the material or manufacturing imperfections. An electronic encoder may provide driving voltage levels for phase shift keying or quadrature amplitude modulation. The number of output amplitude and phase states of light depends on the number of output voltage levels of the encoder.

Abstract:
Embodiments are provided for achieving multi-view video foreground-background segmentation with spatial-temporal graph cuts. A multi-view segmentation algorithm is used where a four-dimensional (4D) graph-cut is constructed by adding links across neighboring views over space and for consecutive frames over time. The segmentation uses both the color values of each input image and the image difference between the input image and the background image to obtain an initial graph-cut, before adding the temporal and spatial links. By using the background subtraction results as the initial segmentation seed, no user annotation is needed to perform multi-view segmentation.

Abstract:
An apparatus and method for transmitting a plurality of light signals is disclosed. The apparatus includes a splitter configured to split an incoming light signal into a plurality of light signals. Phase control units are included which modify the phase of the light signals. Waveguides are coupled to the phase control units. Each waveguide has a different propagation constant, that is different from adjacent waveguides and the difference between the propagation constants of any two adjacent waveguides is substantially larger than an effective coupling constant between said two adjacent waveguides. Coupling members couple the light signal in one of the plurality of waveguides to free space. The splitter may include output and/or input waveguides and a dispersion element splitting and/or combining: light.
