Filed:
Apr 3, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/061967
Inventors:
Chih-Min Lin - San Diego CA, US
Alexander Kharazi - San Diego CA, US
International Classification:
C12Q 1/02
C40B 50/06
US Classification:
435 29, 506 26
Abstract:
The invention is a method for using an avian embryo to identify the neuripotency of a cell population. The invention may be used for applications such as screening for candidate neuripotent cell lines for masterbanking, validation of working cell banks, and identifying agents and conditions capable of inducing neural differentiation in a cell population.

C12N 5/10
C12Q 1/02
US Classification:
424422, 424 9321, 435 29, 435395
Abstract:
A spongiform scaffold which comprises epithelial stem cells, and free of mesenchymal cells. A spongiform scaffold comprising precursor keratinocytes for use in a method of transplantion of the scaffold to an epithelial cell target site in a recipient, resulting in growth of said epithelial stem cells and the ingrowth of cells from the body of said recipient to restore tissue. A version of the scaffold is formed from collagen, and in particular, Spongostan™.

Cellular Scaffold

US Patent:
20080095748, Apr 24, 2008
Filed:
Dec 27, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/616787
Inventors:
Alexander Kharazi - San Diego CA, US
Ludmila Kharazi - San Diego CA, US
International Classification:
A61K 35/12
A61K 9/70
US Classification:
424 937, 424443
Abstract:
A cellular scaffold that is suitable for tissue regeneration, cell culture and in vitro assays. The invention relates to a layered cell scaffold that is seeded with mesenchymal and ectodermal cells. The layered cellular scaffold comprises an inoculum of mesenchymal cells and ectodermal cells positioned between two opposing scaffolds in a sandwich configuration. The layered cell scaffold provides a functional skin equivalent that is suitable for transplantation and in vitro cell-based assays.

Cell Composition And Method For Treating Cancer

View page
US Patent:
20080181874, Jul 31, 2008
Filed:
Jan 29, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/668433
Inventors:
Alexander Kharazi - San Diego CA, US
International Classification:
A61K 48/00
US Classification:
424 9321, 424 933, 424 937
Abstract:
The invention provides, in part, novel cell compositions derived from tumor cell lines. Included are an AKCV-1 cell line deposited under ATCC ______, an AKCV-1-GM cell deposited under ATCC ______, and an AKCV-1 cell that is transfected with interferon alpha. Also provided is a cell composition comprising a tumor cell line that is transfected with GMCSF, and a tumor cell line that is transfected with interferon alpha. The invention further relates to therapeutic and non-therapeutic uses of the novel cell lines. Therapeutic applications of the presently disclosed cell lines include the use of the cell lines as whole cell cancer vaccines.

Compositions Of Stem Cells And Stem Cell Factors And Methods For Their Use And Manufacture

View page
US Patent:
20100209398, Aug 19, 2010
Filed:
Oct 5, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/573159
Inventors:
NIKOLAI TANKOVICH - San Diego CA, US
Alexander Kharazi - San Diego CA, US
Chih-Min Lin - San Diego CA, US
International Classification:
A61K 35/30
A61K 35/12
A61P 25/28
A61P 25/00
US Classification:
424 937
Abstract:
Therapeutic stem cells and methods for their use and manufacture. Stem cells are produced under conditions in which the stem cells are exposed to at least one environmental factor, including decreased oxygen tension. The environmental factors and culture conditions of the invention produce stem cells having an enhanced therapeutic ability and enhanced proliferation in culture. Stem cells of the invention retain their plasticity through a higher number of cell passages relative to know methods of stem cell culture.
