US Patent:
8161819, Apr 24, 2012
Filed:
Feb 13, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/370899
Inventors:
Kurt H. Maxwell - New Hudson MI, US
Tatsuro Mori - Yokohama, JP
Chandana J. DeSilva - Northville MI, US
Alfredo N. DiMichele - Macomb MI, US
Assignee:
Nissan North America, Inc. - Franklin TN
International Classification:
G01H 11/00
US Classification:
73649
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a method for measuring the vibration of a mirror in a vehicle. The method includes attaching a source of electromagnetic radiation to the vehicle, attaching a detector of electromagnetic radiation to the vehicle, positioning the source so that radiation emitted thereby strikes the mirror and reflects therefrom to strike the detector, driving the vehicle while emitting radiation from the source, recording the positions on the detector where the radiation strikes, and determining a vibration index based on the spatial distribution of the positions on the detector where the radiation strikes.

Forward Folding Mirror Assemblies

US Patent:
8042959, Oct 25, 2011
Filed:
Feb 26, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/393325
Inventors:
Kurt Hugh Maxwell - Farmington Hills MI, US
Alfredo N. DiMichele - Farmington Hills MI, US
Chandana J. DeSilva - Farmington Hills MI, US
Assignee:
Nissan North America, Inc. - Franklin TN
International Classification:
G02B 5/08
US Classification:
359841
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are embodiments of vehicles having forward folding door mirror assemblies. One such embodiment of a vehicle comprises a mirror assembly mounted to a vehicle door and configured to rotate about a substantially vertical axis between at least a first position in which the mirror assembly is extended away from the vehicle door for use while driving and a second position in which the mirror assembly is folded forward toward a front end of the vehicle. The vehicle also comprises a mechanism coupled to the mirror assembly and to a vehicle body and responsive to an opening of the vehicle door to rotate the mirror assembly about the substantially vertical axis from the second position to the first position when the door is opened. Also disclosed herein are mirror assemblies and methods of protecting door-mounted mirrors on vehicles.

US Patent:
20140063245, Mar 6, 2014
Filed:
Aug 30, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/599965
Inventors:
Kenneth BOWERS - Romeo MI, US
Alfredo DIMICHELE - Macomb Township MI, US
Kathryn TEMPLETON - Bloomfield Hills MI, US
Kurt MAXWELL - New Hudson MI, US
Assignee:
NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC. - Franklin TN
International Classification:
H04N 7/18
US Classification:
348148, 348E07085
Abstract:
A vehicle mirror assembly includes a vehicle attachment member, a mirror housing, a mirror and a camera. The vehicle attachment member is configured for attachment to a vehicle. The mirror housing is telescopically coupled to the vehicle attachment member between a retracted position and an extended position relative to the vehicle attachment member. The mirror housing defines a camera receiving recess. The mirror is coupled to the mirror housing. The camera is coupled to the vehicle attachment member and disposed in the camera receiving recess of the mirror housing at a fixed position relative to the vehicle attachment member while the mirror housing is moved between the extended position and the retracted position.

Fluid Containment Device

US Patent:
55539122, Sep 10, 1996
Filed:
Oct 28, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/330942
Inventors:
Joseph E. Kubina - Oxford MI
Mark E. Gleason - Farmington Hills MI
Jerry F. Loughlin - Lake Orion MI
Todd H. Wludyka - Walled Lake MI
Thomas C. Odette - Bloomfield Hills MI
Craig S. Montie - Wixom MI
Richard F. Biermacher - West Bloomfield MI
Patrick M. Harney - Rochester Hills MI
Alfredo N. DiMichele - Warren MI
Assignee:
Chrysler Corporation - Highland Park MI
International Classification:
B62D 2508
US Classification:
296192
Abstract:
There is disclosed herein a fluid containment device secured to, or integrated within a vehicle cowl or louvered panel serving to divert water or windshield washer fluid "run-up" away from the operator's line of vision. Such run-up of fluid tends to occur in the vicinity of the ends of a wiper blade at the end of its final or intermittent downward stroke. The fluid containment device is formed to include a ramped lead-in front surface and a vertically oriented trailing surface, creating a high pressure, low velocity space adjacent the rear surface thereof, causing a turbulent airflow to circle downwardly and spiral laterally. The result is to urge the fluid downward toward the base of the louvered panel, and laterally toward the outboard sides of the windshield.
