About:
When she was only 7 years old Amina Blake already had the knack for sales. Walking down to the local village market in her home town in Trinidad in the West Indies, she would spend her weekends selling rare and exotic spices to locals and tourists alike gaining a reputation for her winning personality, honesty and integrity. "I knew then that doing sales was just something I was good at." She says. Though her passion is education Amina knew early on in her schooling that real estate incorporated teaching in its practice and that if she wasn't going to be schooling children then she could at least educate buyers and sellers about the complicated world of real estate investment. "Buying a home is probably the single largest investment anyone will make in their lives and I take pride in knowing I'm giving the homeowner all the facts and information they need so they feel confident and comfortable when they sign." In 2001 Amina left the warm tropics for the harsh New England weather of Connecticut to move in with her family and as she explains family is more important than sunny skies and palm trees. She enrolled at Central Connecticut State University and while taking classes also split her time working as an office administrator in a local real estate office. The environment immediately appealed to her and as soon as she could she obtained her real estate agent license and went to work. Family is a big part of what makes Amina so successful. The support of her own family now translates to how she treats her clients. "I try to deal with all my clients as I would my family," she says, "I have to trust them and they have to trust me. Each client I work with I sit down and meet with face-to-face so they know me and I know them. It's almost like a marriage in some ways, trust is key and if we trust each other than we can find a way to make a deal work." This approach has served her well. Still young for the real estate industry Amina has already established herself with one of the top real estate companies in America, Coldwell Banker, making the esteemed Top 50 units sold list for Connecticut and Westchester County, a group that includes over 2,200 realtors. Amina also estimates that 93% of her sales come from past clients and referrals, solid proof that her integrity and honesty go a long way. She can also list on her impressive resume that every year she has worked as a licensed realtor she has sold at least 20 homes, well above the average agent. Though real estate can be a competitive and cut-throat industry Amina has found that her passion, drive and ambition can outlast the most difficult negotiator. "In this business you really do get as much as you put in to it", she says. "You need to be confident in your ability or the person you're dealing with will lose confidence in you. I always keep the lines of communication open because being honest with one another is the only way the deal works." Amina considers her negotiating skills to be a strong point in that she has the unique ability to understand the needs and expectations of the buyer and the seller and then finding the common ground that will make both sides happy with the final deal. "The reward for me isn't about the money," she says, "it's about knowing I was able to help people find a home they want to live in and that I was a part of a families dream." Whether it's selling spices in a local market or closing the deal on a multi-million dollar home Amina Blake knows how to get the deal done and staying true to her family roots and tenants of integrity and honesty have led her to a bright career in real estate.
