Methods And Apparatus For Caching Network Traffic

View page
US Patent:
6434608, Aug 13, 2002
Filed:
Feb 26, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/259149
Inventors:
Arun Raghavendra Desai - Fremont CA
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G06F 1300
US Classification:
709217, 709219, 709203, 711118
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus are described for caching a first data object in a cache. In response to a data request for the first data object, it is determined whether the first data object is currently cached. Where the first data object is not currently cached, it is determined whether to cache the first data object with reference to at least one parameter associated with the first data object.

Methods And Apparatus For Intercepting Control And Data Connections

View page
US Patent:
7161947, Jan 9, 2007
Filed:
Jul 30, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/208540
Inventors:
Arun Raghavendra Desai - Fremont CA, US
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
H04L 12/28
US Classification:
370401, 370389, 709203
Abstract:
A system provides a proxy connection by intercepting a control connection and a data connection between a client and a server. A proxy device receives a control connection request from a client and establishes a proxy control connection with a server in response to the control connection request from the client. The proxy device then receives a data connection request from the client. In response to the data connection request, the proxy device establishes a data connection with the server at a server-selected or dynamic port of the server and establishes a data connection with the client at a fixed port of the proxy device. Using this technique, the proxy device transparently intercepts both the control connection and the data connection from the client and transmits data received from the server-selected port of the server to the client through the fixed port of the proxy device.

Method And Apparatus For Multicast Cloud With Integrated Multicast And Unicast Channel Routing In A Content Distribution Network

View page
US Patent:
7373394, May 13, 2008
Filed:
Jun 30, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/610173
Inventors:
Dan Li - Sunnyvale CA, US
Arun Desai - Fremont CA, US
Zheng Yang - Fremont CA, US
Kenneth Mueller, II - Santa Barbara CA, US
Stephen Morris - Harvard MA, US
Dmitry Stavisky - Wayland MA, US
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
H04L 12/56
US Classification:
709219, 709227, 709230, 370389
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for defining content distribution paths in a content distribution network integrate unicast and multicast connections. Content engines in the content distributed network are organized into channels with a master content engine maintaining specific content. The content distribution network is further organized into a distribution hierarchy based on network topology and channel definitions, first by establishing unicast paths through the content distributed network and then by integrating multicast paths into the unicast hierarchy. The further organization of the content distribution network establishes distribution trees from the channel masters to the network edges.

Arrangement For Providing Content Operation Identifiers With A Specified Http Object For Acceleration Of Relevant Content Operations

View page
US Patent:
7797376, Sep 14, 2010
Filed:
Nov 13, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/986967
Inventors:
Arun Raghavendra Desai - Fremont CA, US
Assignee:
Cisco Technology, Inc. - San Jose CA
International Classification:
G06F 15/16
US Classification:
709203, 709213, 709246
Abstract:
Web content provided by a server includes associated content operation identifiers that identify related content objects. The web server, in response to receiving an HTTP Get request for the web object, retrieves the web object, and concurrently retrieves the content operation identifiers associated with the web object. The server sends the content operation identifiers with the requested web object as part of an HTTP response. The content operation identifiers may be inserted with an HTTP header, or may be added to the web content, for example by prepending HTML tags specifying the content operation identifiers to an HTML page that includes the requested web object. A proxy device receiving the HTTP response can forward the response to the requesting client device, and execute the content operations specified by the content operation identifiers within the HTTP response. Hence, content operations can be performed for relevant content objects based on content operation identifiers within the HTTP response, eliminating the necessity of client side executable resources that may otherwise affect the device performance.

Methods And Apparatus For Publishing And Subscribing Electronic Documents Using Intermediate Rendezvous Servers

View page
US Patent:
20130268584, Oct 10, 2013
Filed:
Apr 3, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/856357
Inventors:
Arun Raghavendra Desai - Hayward CA, US
International Classification:
H04L 29/06
US Classification:
709203
Abstract:
A system and method for interconnecting a plurality of resource publisher computers with a plurality of rendezvous servers, facilitating resource publishers to dynamically publish content with little or no configuration, further facilitating web based access to the published resources by clients through a rendezvous server. The system organizes users as owners, publishers and/or subscribers of virtual channels, allowing publishers to dynamically publish resource sets to channels, and subscribers to access and/or update resources published to such channels. Resource sets reside at resource publishers, with a rendezvous server facilitating a network path to the resources, enabling resource publishers to have full control over their resources. The system facilitates subscriber clients to connect to a rendezvous server to view the status of the resource sets and access and/or update online resource sets.
