US Classification:
606300
Abstract:
A fastener assembly for engaging vertebral elements has a connecting body that includes a receptacle extending between a first opening and a second opening and a fastener with a head movably supported in the receptacle. The fastener includes a vertebral engaging portion extending distally through the second opening. The fastener assembly further includes a post that has an elongated body with a proximal portion extending proximally from the first opening of the connecting body, a distal engagement end in the receptacle, and an adjusting portion extending between the proximal portion and the engagement end. The adjusting portion is movably engaged to the connecting body to position the engagement end relative to the head of the fastener to substantially fix the head in the receptacle and resist movement of the fastener with respect to the post and the connecting body.

Devices To Protect Features On An Implant And Methods Of Use

View page
US Patent:
20070173934, Jul 26, 2007
Filed:
Jan 20, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/336310
Inventors:
Charles Dickinson - Millington TN, US
Hai Trieu - Cordova TN, US
Douglas Baker - Collierville TN, US
Marco Capote - Memphis TN, US

Abstract:
Protectors and methods of mounting protectors to features on implants within patients. The protectors attach to the features and provide protection to the patient by preventing or reducing injury that may be caused by the feature. The protectors may also be removable such that the feature can be exposed during future revision procedures. A variety of attachment methods may also be used to attach the protector to the feature. Insertion tools may be used for attaching the protectors to the features.

Surgical Instrument Attachment Mechanism

View page
US Patent:
20080275459, Nov 6, 2008
Filed:
May 2, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/799662
Inventors:
Charles Anthony Dickinson - Millington TN, US
William A. Rezach - Atoka TN, US
Daniel Roberts - Germantown TN, US
International Classification:
A61B 17/88
US Classification:
606104
Abstract:
An instrument attachment mechanism is disclosed that is operable to be temporarily, but securely, connected with a surgical device. The attachment mechanism includes a body that has a drive member protruding outwardly from a portion of the body. The drive member includes a plurality of side walls and a passageway running from a bottom surface of the drive member to a predetermined depth in the drive member. At least one slot is located in a respective one of the plurality of side walls that extends through the side wall into the passageway. A biasing member is positioned within the passageway such that a select portion of the biasing member protrudes outwardly from the slot. A surgical device, such as a surgical instrument or implant, may be temporarily connected with the drive member such that the select portions of the biasing member apply force to an inner wall of a drive receiving member of the surgical device.

Anchor Assembly With Directionally Controlled Saddle Adjustment And Transversely Adjustable Receiver

View page
US Patent:
20110106173, May 5, 2011
Filed:
Oct 30, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/609983
Inventors:
Gary S. Lindemann - Collierville TN, US
William Benoist - Germantown TN, US
Charles Anthony Dickinson - Bartlett TN, US
Assignee:
Warsaw Orthopedic, Inc. - Warsaw IN
International Classification:
A61B 17/86
US Classification:
606302, 606305
Abstract:
A bone anchor assembly includes a receiver extending along a central longitudinal axis between a proximal end and an opposite distal end and a bone anchor extending from the receiver. The receiver includes a distal portion defining a receptacle opening at the distal end and a pair of arms extending from the distal portion along the central longitudinal axis on opposite sides of a passage. The receiver includes a saddle that is adjustable in the receiver in one plane to accommodate the angle of placement of the connecting element through the receiver. The receiver is adjustable in another plane that is transverse to the adjustment plane of the saddle to better position the receiver to receive the connecting element. The adjustable saddle and receiver reduce the bending or contouring of the connecting element that may be required to position the connecting element in the receiver.
