N+1 Failover And Resynchronization Of Data Storage Appliances

View page
US Patent:
8122284, Feb 21, 2012
Filed:
Jun 17, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/817384
Inventors:
Tracy M. Taylor - Concord MA, US
Craig Leckband - Westford MA, US
Yongmin Chen - Wellesley MA, US
International Classification:
G06F 11/00
US Classification:
714 412, 714 411, 714 612, 714 62, 714 622, 714 623, 714 63
Abstract:
Reciprocal data storage protection is combined with “N+1” hardware provisioning and on-demand resynchronization to guarantee full data availability without impairing performance. Pairs of nodes are identified that act as backups for each other, where each node stores a secondary copy of data allocated to its reciprocal, paired node. A single extra node is brought online to take over the role of a failed node and assumes the role of the primary node it replaced.

Method And System For Goal Management

Assignee:
Performaworks, Incorporated
International Classification:
G06F017/60
US Classification:
705/008000
Abstract:
A method and system are provided for managing goals of an organization. A goal tree is generated having a high level organization goal and one or more hierarchically organized subordinate goals aligned with the high level organization goal. Each goal is owned by one or more individuals associated with the organization. The goal tree is accessible to one or more of the individuals through a graphical user interface for their use in monitoring progress toward the goals.

Electronic Chain Of Custody Method And System

View page
US Patent:
20060106718, May 18, 2006
Filed:
Nov 16, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/989956
Inventors:
Peter Spellman - Quincy MA, US
Shabbir Dahod - Andover MA, US
Lucia Deus - Bedford MA, US
Craig Leckband - Bedford MA, US
Sean Wellington - Newton MA, US
Assignee:
SupplyScape Corporation - Cambridge MA
International Classification:
G06Q 99/00
H04L 9/00
H04K 1/00
US Classification:
705050000
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for maintaining a chain of custody record for the handling of an item transferred among a plurality of custodians. A system in accordance with one or more embodiments can include a plurality of computers operable by the custodians. The system also includes an electronic form transferable among the computers. The form is transferred from a computer operated by one custodian to a computer operated by another in correspondence with the transfer of the item from the custodian to the other. The form identifies the item and includes space for entry of information by each custodian handling the item. The information entered by the custodians includes an identification of the custodian and a digital signature of the custodian authenticating the item. At least some of the information entered by a custodian is unalterable by another custodian.

Method And System For Compression Of Structured Textual Documents

View page
US Patent:
20070203930, Aug 30, 2007
Filed:
Dec 18, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/612046
Inventors:
Peter Spellman - Quincy MA, US
Shabbir Dahod - Andover MA, US
Michael Higgs - Waterloo ON, CA
Sean Wellington - Newton MA, US
Craig Leckband - Bedford MA, US
Assignee:
SUPPLYSCAPE CORPORATION - Woburn MA
International Classification:
G06F 7/00
US Classification:
707101000
Abstract:
A method and system are provided for compressing structured documents. The method includes the steps of (a) receiving semantic information for a given class of documents; (b) receiving a document of the given class to be compressed; (c) decomposing the document into a plurality of strings; (d) identifying document specific strings from the plurality of strings based on the semantic information, and writing the document specific strings to output; (e) determining whether other strings of the plurality of strings of the document are referenced by a key in a shared database; (f) when a string of the other strings is referenced by a key in the shared database, writing the key to output in place of the string; and (g) when a string of the other strings is not referenced by a key in the shared database, adding the string to the shared database with an associated key, and writing the associated key to output in place of the string.

Object Oriented Network System For Allocating Ranges Of Globally Unique Object Identifiers From A Server Process To Client Processes Which Release Unused Identifiers

View page
US Patent:
55220770, May 28, 1996
Filed:
May 19, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/246065
Inventors:
Winslow R. Cuthbert - Groton MA
Craig S. Harris - Acton MA
Craig R. Leckband - Bedford MA
Paul A. Martel - Fitchburg MA
Assignee:
Ontos, Inc. - Burlington MA
International Classification:
G06F 1516
US Classification:
395700
Abstract:
A system for generating globally unique identifiers for objects in a distributed object oriented database. In one embodiment the system comprises at least two processors connected by means of a network to a processor executing a server process which provides globally unique identifiers for objects throughout the network. Each processor on the network may execute one or more client processes, each of which may run transactions against the database. Each such client process transmits a request to the server process which provides the globally unique identifiers when that client process requires a globally unique object identifier for objects which the requesting client process is creating. In response to the request, the server which provides globally unique identifiers transmits a range of globally unique object identifiers to the requesting client process. The requesting client process then allocates object identifiers from this range of globally unique object identifiers to the objects it is creating.
