Filed:
May 7, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/775477
Inventors:
Barney D. Nefcy - Novi MI, US
Marvin Paul Kraska - Dearborn MI, US
Walt Joseph Ortmann - Saline MI, US
Brian Ninja Soo - Farmington Hills MI, US
Dan Scott Colvin - Farmington Hills MI, US
David Tourner - Novi MI, US
Assignee:
FORD GLOBAL TECHNOLOGIES, LLC - DEARBORN MI
International Classification:
B62D 6/00
US Classification:
701 41
Abstract:
A system and method for automatically angularly positioning wheels of an automotive vehicle after parking. The system disclosed here includes a power-assisted steering system coupled to the wheels. Further, the system includes a controller, coupled to the steering system, which is configured to automatically position the wheels in a desired direction, based on a determination that the vehicle is parked.

Regenerative Braking Coaching System

US Patent:
20160267726, Sep 15, 2016
Filed:
Mar 9, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/641692
Inventors:
- Dearborn MI, US
Bernard D. NEFCY - Novi MI, US
David Paul TOURNER - Novi MI, US
Francis Thomas CONNOLLY - Ann Arbor MI, US
International Classification:
G07C 5/06
B60L 7/10
H02P 3/14
Abstract:
A vehicle includes a regenerative braking system, which may include an electric machine, configured to provide regenerative braking torque to vehicle traction wheels. The vehicle further includes at least one controller configured to provide indicia for display to indicate performance of the regenerative braking system. The indicia represent a comparison of a braking profile that is recorded during a deceleration event and a calculated braking profile that is based on a detected forward object. In various embodiments, the indicia may include a numerical or letter grade representative of a similarity between the recorded braking profile and the calculated braking profile and/or a visual representation of the comparison of the recorded braking profile and the calculated braking profile.

System And Method For Optimizing Regenerative Braking In Adaptive Cruise Control

View page
US Patent:
20160144721, May 26, 2016
Filed:
Nov 20, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/548344
Inventors:
- Dearborn MI, US
Bernard D. NEFCY - Novi MI, US
Francis Thomas CONNOLLY - Ann Arbor MI, US
David Paul TOURNER - Novi MI, US
Dale Scott CROMBEZ - Livonia MI, US
International Classification:
B60L 7/26
B60W 20/00
B60K 6/48
B60W 30/14
Abstract:
A vehicle includes traction wheels, an electric machine configured to provide regenerative braking torque to the traction wheels, wheel brakes configured to provide friction braking torque to the traction wheels, and at least one power source configured to provide drive torque to the traction wheels. The vehicle additionally includes, a sensor configured to detect a forward object, and at least one controller. The controller is configured to control the power source, wheel brakes, and electric machine according to an adaptive cruise control (ACC) algorithm. The ACC algorithm is configured to command the electric machine to provide regenerative braking torque without application of the wheel brakes in response to a detected forward object and a maximum regeneration braking distance. The maximum regeneration braking distance is calculated based on a powertrain regenerative braking limit and a distance to the forward object.

Temporary Engine Start Or Stop Using Paddle Shifter

View page
US Patent:
20160023652, Jan 28, 2016
Filed:
Jul 25, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/340649
Inventors:
- Dearborn MI, US
Bernard D. NEFCY - Novi MI, US
David Paul TOURNER - Novi MI, US
Charles VITULLO - Allen Park MI, US
Craig Edward ESLER - Plymouth MI, US
International Classification:
B60W 20/00
F02N 11/08
Abstract:
A vehicle includes an internal combustion engine, a driver interface having a first driver-activated selector, and a controller. The controller selectively operates the engine according to a first mode and a second mode. In the first mode the engine runs continuously. In the second mode the engine is turned off in response to a first set of operating conditions and turned on in response to a second set of operating conditions. The controller further, in response to a driver activation of the first selector, controls the engine according to the first mode and, in response to an anticipated end of a first vehicle acceleration event subsequent the driver activation of the first selector, controls the engine according to the second mode.
