Mar 15, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/048441
Inventors:
Desmond Adler - Melrose MA, US
Assignee:
Lightlab Imaging, Inc. - Westford MA
International Classification:
H01S 3/08
US Classification:
372106, 372102, 372 98, 372 18, 372 20
Abstract:
In one embodiment, the invention relates to systems, methods and devices for improving the operation of an electromagnetic radiation source or component thereof. In one embodiment, the source is a laser source. A Fourier domain mode locked laser can be used in various embodiments. The sources described herein can be used in an optical coherence tomography (OCT) system such as a frequency domain OCT system. In one embodiment, laser coherence length is increased by compensating for dispersion. A frequency shifter can also be used in one embodiment to compensate for a tunable filter induced Doppler shift.

Miniature Optical Elements For Fiber-Optic Beam Shaping

US Patent:
8582934, Nov 12, 2013
Filed:
Apr 22, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/765501
Inventors:
Desmond Adler - Melrose MA, US
Stephen McCartin - Chelmsford MA, US
Christopher Petersen - Carlisle MA, US
Joseph Schmitt - Andover MA, US
Assignee:
Lightlab Imaging, Inc. - Westford MA
International Classification:
G02B 6/26
G01B 11/14
US Classification:
385 33, 385 39, 385 79, 356614
Abstract:
In part, the invention relates to optical caps having at least one lensed surface configured to redirect and focus light outside of the cap. The cap is placed over an optical fiber. Optical radiation travels through the fiber and interacts with the optical surface or optical surfaces of the cap, resulting in a beam that is either focused at a distance outside of the cap or substantially collimated. The optical elements such as the elongate caps described herein can be used with various data collection modalities such optical coherence tomography. In part, the invention relates to a lens assembly that includes a micro-lens; a beam director in optical communication with the micro-lens; and a substantially transparent film or cover. The substantially transparent film is capable of bi-directionally transmitting light, and generating a controlled amount of backscatter. The film can surround a portion of the beam director.

Method For Identifying Malignancies In Barrett's Esophagus Using White Light Endoscopy

View page
US Patent:
20100087741, Apr 8, 2010
Filed:
Oct 2, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/572473
Inventors:
Alexandre Douplik - Erlangen, DE
Desmond C. Adler - Melrose MA, US
Brian C. Wilson - Toronto, CA
Norman Marcon - Toronto, CA
Assignee:
NOVADAQ TECHNOLOGIES INC. - Mississauga
International Classification:
A61B 6/00
US Classification:
600476
Abstract:
A method is described for computing a statistically significant difference between dysplasia and Barrett's esophagus (both with and without inflammatory component) using a discriminate function with diffuse reflectance measurements performed at a minimum of four different wavelengths of 485, 513, 598, and 629 nm. The discriminate function found depends both on local blood fraction volume Tand oxygenation SO. A pull-back approach of spectral data acquisition is disclosed which takes into account tissue motility in esophagus and measurement geometry peculiarities. The pull-back approach provides a significant improvement of measurement reproducibility and reduction of data deviation by 75-100%, resulting in a better discrimination between different histological groups.
