Abstract:
A lens for a flashlight or other lighting unit provides for focusing light from a source, such as an LED, to provide a light beam adjustable between a spot beam and a wide beam. The lens includes a lens body with a front face, a rear LED-receiving well, and a side surface extending between the front face and the rear well. The front face includes a central surface surrounded by an annular concave surface. The rear well includes a space for the LED to be adjusted in position. The rear well space is defined by a concavely-curved sidewall and a concavely-curved base. The concave curvature of the sidewall and base may be Bezier curves.

Abstract:
Embodiments provide a flashlight with a bezel configured to be moved relative to a body of the flashlight to adjust the focus of the light. A locking assembly may be disposed within the bezel and configured to switch between an unlocked position and a locked position if the bezel is rotated with respect to the body. The locking assembly may include a ring-shaped outer component having first and second curved walls separated by a gap. The locking assembly may further include an inner component coupled with the light assembly, the inner component including a nub configured to be disposed in the gap if the locking assembly is in the unlocked position, and to radially push an outer surface of the outer component against the inner surface of the bezel if the locking assembly is in the locked position.

Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a thin-profile lens for shaping a beam of light from a light source, such as a light emitting diode (LED), for example in a flashlight or other lighting unit. In various embodiments, the lens may be combined with an adjustment mechanism for varying the focus of the beam of light, and may be housed in a structure supporting the lens, light source, and adjustment mechanism. In various embodiments, the structure also may include a power source, controls, interconnections, and electronics. In various embodiments, the thin profile of the lens may allow the lens to be used in any of a number of applications, ranging from narrow diameter flashlights to large diameter light sources.

Abstract:
Disclosed in various embodiments are integrated lens and bezel systems for a flashlight or other lighting unit. Various embodiments include a housing, including a bezel portion and a body portion, a lens, wherein the lens and the bezel together comprise a single, continuous component, and a light source disposed within the housing, wherein the light source is configured to interact with the lens to provide a light beam. Some embodiments provide a mechanism for adjusting the relative positions of the light source and lens, for example to allow for focusing of the light beam. In some embodiments, the lens is continuous with just the bezel portion, whereas in other embodiments, the lens, bezel, and all or part of the body portion are formed as a single, unitary component, for instance by injection-molding or co-molding.

Abstract:
The present disclosure relates to a focusing optic for shaping a beam of light from a light source, such as a light emitting diode (LED), for example in a flashlight or other lighting unit. In various embodiments, the focusing optic includes a central focusing element configured to direct a light beam from an LED in a desired direction; a side wall extending from the central focusing element, wherein the side wall is configured to form a rear void for receiving the LED; and an annular ring portion extending from the side wall and surrounding the central focusing element, wherein the annular ring portion is adapted to reflect light in a desired direction. In some embodiments, the side wall and annular ring portion together define a thickness dimension that varies less than 20% over the lens body.

Abstract:
Embodiments are described which provide for a rechargeable battery pack for use in a flashlight. The rechargeable battery pack may include a rechargeable cell, one or more conductive contacts to provide power to a flashlight, and a charging port. The rechargeable battery pack may include these components as a self-contained unit inside a single casing. A flashlight may be configured to accept the rechargeable battery pack in a cavity of the flashlight as well as a non-rechargeable battery pack of a similar profile. Embodiments are also described which provide for a rechargeable pen light with conductive body portions, such that the pen light may be charged through insertion in a charging cover. Abstract:
Portable illumination devices (e.g., flashlights, headlamps, mobile devices with lights, watches, etc.), assemblies and methods of use are described herein. In various embodiments, a portable illumination device may include a housing, a light source, a Hall Effect sensor, a magnet that is movable relative to the Hall Effect sensor and provides a magnetic field, and a logic contained within the housing. In various embodiments, the logic may be operably coupled to the light source and the Hall Effect sensor. In various embodiments, the logic may be configured to alter a quantity of light emitted by the light source based on data, provided by the Hall Effect sensor, indicative of a spatial relationship between the magnet and the Hall Effect sensor.
