Treatment Of Immune-Mediated Diseases By Oral Administration Of Plasma Fractions Enriched In Immunoglobulin G

View page
US Patent:
20020098182, Jul 25, 2002
Filed:
Sep 28, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/966119
Inventors:
Richard Weisbart - Los Angeles CA, US
Leon Barstow - Tucson AZ, US
International Classification:
A61K039/395
US Classification:
424/131100
Abstract:
Human plasma fractions substantially enriched in human immunoglobulin G, such as Cohn Fraction II+III, and optionally an antacid may be administered orally to patients suffering from a myriad of immune-mediated diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, to treat the disease condition of those patients. Oral administration of Cohn Fraction II+III results in significant clinical improvement in the level of disease activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, for example.

Assignee:
Protein Therapeutics, Inc.
International Classification:
A61K039/395
US Classification:
424/130100
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the method of treatment for immune-mediated neurodegenerative diseases using alimentary administration, for example oral administration, of immunoglobulin. More particular, autistic spectrum disorder is treated using oral administration of immunoglobulin.

Organic Syntheses Employing Supercritical Carbon Dioxide As A Reaction Solvent

View page
US Patent:
50012240, Mar 19, 1991
Filed:
Mar 11, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/167201
Inventors:
Leon E. Barstow - Tucson AZ
Glen D. Ward - Tucson AZ
Milan Bier - Tucson AZ
Assignee:
Protein Technologies, Inc. - Tucson AZ
International Classification:
C07K 102
C07K 104
US Classification:
530334
Abstract:
Chemical reactions are readily carried out using supercritical carbon dioxide as the reaction medium. Supercritical carbon dioxide is of special value as a reaction medium in reactions for synthesizing polypeptides, for sequencing polypeptides, or for amino acid analysis.

Matrix Of Valves

View page
US Patent:
52033686, Apr 20, 1993
Filed:
Jul 29, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/922036
Inventors:
Leon E. Barstow - Tucson AZ
Anthony R. Ford - Tucson AZ
Terry D. Long - Tucson AZ
Glen D. Ward - Tucson AZ
Assignee:
Protein Technologies Inc. - Tucson AZ
International Classification:
F16K 1122
F16K 31126
US Classification:
137240
Abstract:
A matrix of valves being formed using a sandwich of three layers with a pliable membrane interposed between two of the layers. Supply channels and delivery channels are created through etching, routing, or other such means on the middle layer. Each supply channel communicates with all of the delivery channels via a valve location which is opened or closed by pneumatic pressure on the pliable membrane. Movement of the pliable membrane is affected through suction or pressure as communicated via holes in the overlying layer. In this manner, selected supply and delivery lines are connected by appropriate suction being placed on the membrane. Selected valves are simultaneously opened to provide parallel operations.

Premixed Dry Reagent Containing A Protected Amino Acid And An Activating Agent For Use In Solid Phase Protein Synthesis

View page
US Patent:
50649400, Nov 12, 1991
Filed:
Sep 14, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/582828
Inventors:
Leon E. Barstow - Tucson AZ
Glen D. Ward - Tucson AZ
Assignee:
Protein Technologies, Inc. - Tuscon AZ
International Classification:
C07K 106
C07K 100
US Classification:
530334
Abstract:
A novel and convenient process is described for providing protected amino acids and activating agents for solid phase synthesis which drastically reduces the capital costs of equipment required for the preparation of peptides. The two normally very reactive reagents, when mixed as anhydrous powders are shelf stable and yet form an active compound rapidly when mixed together in solution. This invention presents a method for combining these highly reactive dry solids in a manner which makes them unreactive and shelf stable at room temperature for extended periods of time. Once the solids are dissolved in solvent, a highly reactive amino acid ester that can readily be used in solid phase peptide synthesis is formed. This method of delivery of reagents to an automated peptide synthesizer allowers a very simplified instrument to be constructed using fewer and less expensive components and significantly reducing the associated software required.
