A pool sweep having a continuously-cycling, flow-interrupting valve at the upstream entrance to an inertial flow chamber. The valve has an entrance mouth with one or more closure lips pivoting been open and closed positions to open and close the mouth. The lips are biased towards closure with low creep biasing means, as by materials having a strain at its elastic limit of below 0. 5 such as one or more metal springs urging the lip toward closure. The magnitude of the opening bias throughout the range of movement of the lips between open and close under dynamic flow conditions is substantially less than the closing force created by the water flow through the valve mouth urging the lips towards closure and substantially greater than the closing force imparted by flow through the mouth during lip travel from full closure to the open position. Over an initial closure-initiating region beginning from the fully open position the opening bias is substantially less than the closing force on the lips created by the water flow through the valve mouth under steady flow conditions, such as occur at start-up. Desirably, the opening bias is substantially less than the closing force on the lips created by the water flow under steady flow conditions as well over an opening-initiating region towards the open position beginning from the full closure and in the region intermediate these two end regions.

A vacuum pool cleaning device of the interrupted flow type having a valve in the form of a pair of lips biased to an open position by the inherent elasticity of the plastic material forming a portion or all of the valve in which an auxiliary biasing structure with low creep properties is applied to the lips of the valve and function to compensate for the memory loss during a cycle of operation of the valve in the plastic, due to its relatively high creep properties, by returning the lips substantially to their open position when the operation of the unit is stopped, so that during the at-rest period prior to the next cycle the plastic material can reestablish its memory.

Radionuclide emission imaging is improved by correcting emission-transmission data for attenuation along calculated path lengths and through calculated basis material. X-ray transmission data are used to develop an attenuation map through an object which is then used in reconstructing an image based on emission data, Radiation detection circuitry is provided which has different operating modes in detecting the x-ray and emission photons passing through the object. An iterative process is used to reconstruct the radionuclide distribution using the radionuclide projection data and the attenuation map based on physical characteristics of the object being imaged. Subsets of the complete radionuclide projection data are used to reconstruct image subsets of the radionuclide distribution. The image subsets can be generated concurrently with the acquisition of the radionuclide projection data or following acquisition of all data.

A method for measuring the level of organic calcium antagonist drug in a body fluid comprises preparing a mixture of a radioactive calcium antagonist drug, a body fluid containing a calcium antagonist drug and a calcium antagonist receptor material, measuring the radioactivity of the radioactive calcium antagonist drug bound to said calcium antagonist receptor material and deriving the concentration of the calcium antagonist drug in the body fluid from a standard curve indicating the concentration of calcium antagonist drug versus inhibition of binding of said radioactive calcium antagonist drug to said receptor sites caused by the calcium antagonist drug in said body fluid. A kit for measuring the level of an organic calcium drug comprises a receptacle containing a radioactive calcium antagonist drug, a calcium antagonist receptor material and a standard amount of a nonradioactive calcium antagonist drug.
