Abstract:
The present invention concerns methods and composition for modulating the level of gene expression of the αsubunit of the L-type calcium channel. Such methods and compositions provide preventative and therapeutic benefits with respect to gastrointestinal motility disorders. In examples of the invention, sustained changes in gene expression of the αsubunit are effected by a low dose of a modulator given over an extended period of time. This provides methods and compositions for inducing sustained contractility or relaxation of gut smooth muscle cells.
